Reading is a large town situated about 40 miles from London, with an excellent train service to the Capital and to the West of England. It is situated on the River Thames and visitors to the town can enjoy peaceful riverside walks, as well as the extensive shopping centre, markets, cinemas, museum and theatre.
The University of Reading is located close to the town centre. Whiteknights, the parkland campus, was once part of a medieval estate. Its special features include a lake, a conservation area and many mature cedar trees. The University today has almost 9,000 students.
Wantage Hall
Wantage Hall in Upper Redlands Road, is a short walk from the main campus and a mile from the town centre. Founded in 1908, it is a fine example of traditional college building. Most of the accommodation is built around a quadrangle with lawns and flowerbeds enclosed by red-brick buildings which are overlooked by a clock tower. The dining room has mock Tudor panelling.
