The picturesque market town of Oakham is the county town of Rutland, famously England’s smallest county, set in gently rolling countryside and surrounded by pretty stone built villages. The train station, with frequent services to Leicester and Nottingham, and connections to London and other cities, is just five minutes' walk from the School.
In the heart of Oakham, the Market Place is dominated by the historic Butter Cross and overlooked by a magnificent church. In this charming setting, Oakham School’s extensive campus provides superb facilities with easy access to all local amenities, including a twice-weekly market, delightful craft shops and boutiques. In addition to the School’s excellent sports facilities, nearby Rutland Water, a delightful reservoir, offers plenty of opportunities for sailing, walking, bird-watching, cycling or lazy picnics on its tree-lined banks.
Oakham School
Founded in 1584, Oakham School has become known for combining traditional ideas with innovative educational thinking and was one of the first schools to pioneer full co-education. This spirit of innovation extends through all areas of life at Oakham and is reflected in its established reputation for academic and sporting excellence.
All the School buildings are located in very attractive surroundings around the town centre. The teaching areas are equipped to an exceptionally high standard.
