Welcome to Dundee - Scotland's sunniest city

Dundee, the fourth largest city in Scotland, is situated on the northeast coast beside the River Tay and claims to be the nation's sunniest city. It was once a busy port, importing large quantities of wine from France and Spain. Later, it became famous for importing jute for fabric production, and for exporting wool and hides. The city also had an important shipyard, with 2,000 ships built between 1871 and 1881.

Robert Scott's Antarctic exploration vessel, RRS Discovery, was built here and is now moored at Discovery Point. The surrounding countryside is well known for places such as the Sidlaw Hills to the north and the southern Highlands to the west. Within the city is the basalt plug of an extinct volcano called Dundee Law (or 'The Law'). Glamis Castle, the childhood home of the late Queen Mother, is close by, as are Edinburgh, Perth and St Andrews.

University of Dundee
The University of Dundee is one of the UK's leading universities. It was the Scottish University of the Year 2004/2005 and ranked top for teaching quality in 2005. It was originally part of the University of St Andrews but became independent in 1967. There are now over 18,000 students and 3,000 staff. The campus is set in the city of Dundee and Stafford House Study Holidays' students will be accommodated in the main campus area. The University is a five-minute walk from the train station, High Street shops, theatres and galleries.
