Academic summer course / English for Academic Purposes
This pre-sessional programme is designed to prepare students for further academic studies in English and focuses on the following areas:
- Academic English language skills - study skills, vocabulary, grammar, essay construction, research, note taking etc.
- Communication skills - interaction with classmates, discussion and conversation techniques.
- Cultural familiarisation - living and studying in the UK.
Introductory sessions include: opening a bank account, registering with the doctor etc. The course also offers seminars in general areas such as humanities and business. Students may be asked to complete a project in an area of their choice.
Course details
- This course is available in Cambridge or Canterbury.
- Students aged 15+.
- 20 hours' English for Academic Purposes lessons per week.
- 6 hours' Academic subjects per week.
- One Saturday excursion per week.
- Social programme includes welcome party, video night, disco and sports afternoon.
- Email and internet access on College computers.
- Residential accommodation.
- July to September (7 or 8 weeks.)
