English Language Programmes

A range of English Language programmes to suit everyone

At Coventry University FoundationCampus we offer three types of English Language programme:

• English Language Preparation Programme: for students who intend to enter a Coventry FoundationCampus programme before progressing on to a degree at Coventry University.

• Pre-Sessional English Language Programme: for students who hold an offer of a place at Coventry University and do not need a Foundation programme.

• General English Language courses: for students who wish to study at any university and are academically qualified to do so, but need to improve their English Language skills.

Which course is for me?

Are you interested in a FoundationCampus programme leading to a degree at Coventry University but don't have IELTS 4.5 or above?

• Yes - English Language Preparation Programme 
  You will need to meet academic requirements for the FoundationCampus programme.

• No - go to next question

Do you have a conditional offer from Coventry University and don't need a Foundation programme?

• Yes - Pre-Sessional English Language Programme 
  You will need IELTS 4.5 or above.

• No - go to next question

Are you unsure where you want to go to university but need to improve your English Language skills?

• Yes - General English Language courses
  You will need to meet academic requirements for university-level study and have IELTS 3.0 or above.

English Language Preparation Programme (ELPP) 

The English Language Preparation Programme leads onto Coventry FoundationCampus courses. Students who successfully complete a foundation course automatically gain entry onto a choice of undergraduate or postgraduate degree programmes.

The course is flexible and based around your needs. Depending on your level and speed of progression we could have you ready to start your Foundation course within 3 months.

Essential skills for your future

The ELPP focuses on the following:

• vocabulary
• grammar
• skills training
• IELTS preparation.

You will be trained in all four language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) to the level required for your course (IELTS 4.5 for International Foundation (undergraduate) or IELTS 5.0 for Master’s Qualifying).

Upon completion of the ELPP you should be able to:

• understand basic business vocabulary and expressions
• communicate successfully in common social settings
• achieve an overall score of at least 4.5 (IFP) / 5.0 (MQP) in the internal mock IELTS test.

Ensuring your IELTS success

We don't take any chances with your future. We know you want to progress to your course so achieving the right IELTS score is crucial. To ensure that you get the results you need in your final IELTS exam, we assess your progress throughout the course by means of full and regular mock IELTS assessments. When you sit your final exam there won't be any surprises.

Course dates & fees
As the ELPP is specially tailored to individual students' needs, your start and end dates will depend on your current level of English and the Foundation programme that you wish to study.

Start dates: September, January or April

Course duration: 3, 6, 9 or 12 months

Course fees: £3000 per term (3 months)

Pre-Sessional English Language Programme

This course is for students already holding an offer of a place on a degree at Coventry University.

It is designed for students who need to improve their English language skills before they start their taught or research degree course.

Depending on the start date of your degree and your current English language level, we will advise you on the duration of your Pre-Sessional course to meet the conditions of your offer.

Undergraduate students at Coventry are usually required to have a minimum of IELTS 6.0.

Postgraduate students at Coventry are usually required to have a minimum of IELTS 6.5.      

The Pre-Sessional English Language course has a minimum entry requirement of IELTS 4.5.

General English Language courses

These courses are designed for academically qualified international students with IELTS 3.0 or above, who wish to study for a degree but have not yet chosen a university destination.

It aims to help students develop the language competence they need for studying and living in the UK.

It is also suitable if you just want general English improvement and would like to study in a university environment.
