What is Year Zero?

CSVPA student work - GraphicsCSVPA Fashion Show 2008CSVPA Fashion Show 2008

Year Zero offers an alternative to the standard Foundation in Art & Design. It is a focused year leading directly on to the first year of our Degree programmes in Fashion or Graphics & Illustration.

Focus on one discipline: Fashion or Graphic Design / Illustration

While the existing Art Foundation offers a very broad range of Art & Design subject options to help students choose their specialist area prior to a Degree programme, Year Zero is aimed at students who have already firmly decided on their career path but who do not yet have the skills or experience to go straight on to the Degree.

Students successfully completing either Art Foundation or Year Zero are thoroughly prepared to enter a Degree programme in the UK or overseas.

Take a look at some of our students' work showcased in the annual end of year fashion show.

Course Structure

Term 1

Students are introduced to the different aspects of their chosen area before specialising in a specific area of Fashion or Graphics & Illustration. They do not take the other Art & Design disciplines and therefore are fully immersed in their subject from the start of their course.

  • FASHION students study Textiles, Photography, Drawing, the History of Fashion and current Fashion Practice.
  • GRAPHIC DESIGN & ILLUSTRATION students study Graphics & Illustration, Photography, Animation, Drawing and the History of Graphic Design & Illustration and current G&I Practice.
Term 2

Fashion and Graphics & Illustration students share studio practice with general Art Foundation students and continue with subject theory.

Term 3

Students continue to follow the same timetable as general Art Foundation students but take additional undergraduate modules in preparation for moving on to Degree level.
