Nursing & Health Sciences Foundation

Nursing & Health Sciences Foundation

  • This is the only Foundation course for International Students wanting to study Nursing & Health Sciences in the UK.
  • The course leads on to the 3 year BSc Honours degree programme at Queens University Belfast - one of the leading teaching centres in the UK.
  • The BSc provides a route to a whole range of careers within the Health Service, including:
    • managerial roles
    • qualified nursing positions
    • more specialised training e.g. midwifery and radiology.
  • Completion of the BSc leads to registration as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. You will be fully qualified to work in any EU country.

The Pathway

Students take a one year Foundation Programme at CATS Canterbury for entry to the 3 year BSc Honours degree programme at QUB.  Progression is not guaranteed and students will have to pass the Foundation Programme at the appropriate level and achieve IELTS 7.0

Students study the core subjects required by QUB for their BSc students: English Language, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry.

Start dates

There are two entry points to our Nursing Foundation pathway:

  • Starting September 08 at CATS Canterbury, for three terms, then starting at QUB September 2009.
  • Starting April 09 at CATS Canterbury, for three terms, then starting at QUB in February 2010

Nursing at Queen’s University Belfast

Full details of the Nursing programme are available on the QUB website but it includes placements in hospital and community settings throughout the three year course.

Graduates will be entitled to work in the UK for at least one year under the International Graduate Scheme and it is anticipated that permanent employment will be available, given the shortage of nurses in the UK.  The QUB degree is also an internationally recognised qualification.

Entrance requirements

Students must have completed 12 years of secondary education and shown an aptitude for Maths and either Biology or Chemistry.

IELTS 5.5 or its equivalent will be required at entry but students may take an Academic English Programme at CATS Canterbury before starting the Foundation Programme.

Tuition fees

CATS Canterbury Foundation:
£13,500 per annum paid termly
or
£13,000 per annum paid in advance

BSc Nursing: £13,000 per annum
