2-Year Diploma: develop your portfolio and English Language skills

This course is aimed at international students. It allows you to explore many aspects of Art & Design while improving your English Language skills. Through the course you will build a portfolio of work to support your application to Art & Design Foundation courses.

Who is the Diploma for?

  • International students who need to improve their English before applying for the Art & Design Foundation.
  • Students aged 17+ who have completed junior high school, GCSEs or their equivalents.
  • Students looking for a course to prepare for art college or university whilst also studying for AS-level examinations.
  • Students seriously considering a career in Art & Design.

Year 1

The first year of the Diploma introduces students to the core subject areas of Visual Studies and Life Drawing.

You also receive English language tuition throughout the course to take you to a level of at least IELTS 6.0 before applying to art college or university.

You must successfully complete Year 1 to move on to the Art & Design Foundation course in Year 2.

Year 2

Having successfully completed Year 1 of the Diploma course, students then move on to the Art & Design Foundation course.

Entry requirements

Age: 17+

Academic level: Students should have completed junior high school, GCSEs or their equivalents in their own country

English Language level: IELTS 5.0+

Course length: 2 or 3 terms

Year 1: Hours per week
Tuition time: 20 hrs
Studio time: 9 hrs
Language teaching: 4 hrs


Entry dates: September

Tuition fees: £6,000 per term (includes English Language tuition)
