Qian Li Xia (Bill)

Qian Li Xia (Bill)

China , CATS College Cambridge, A-level

Qian Li progressed to Cambridge University where he is now studying Mathematics.

"My first year was great - we had really small class sizes and as I was a little unconfident with my English they gave me more time to talk to the tutor individually.

I decided to stay in Cambridge over the summer to try and improve my spoken English and got a job at a restaurant which forced me to talk to people. This had a big effect on my spoken English language level and really helped my studies going into my second year."

What advice would you give someone considering studying in the UK?
"Take the opportunity! I enjoyed the independence and freedom, it's a very unfamiliar feeling and not something I was used to but has really helped me grow as an individual. I have had to plan my own time and take responsibility for myself."

Do you think the staff and tutors at CATS are supportive?
"Tutors are very supportive, my maths tutor really brought the excitement to the subject and I really respect him and his knowledge. He is amazingly fast and never uses a calculator! Our PTs are always around for us to talk to if we have a problem. I had lots of help with my personal statement for university entry as well."

How would you sum up CATS?
"Good location and I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of studying in Cambridge. Its a fairly quiet city, with good tutors who are very helpful. I wouldn’t have achieved so much as I have, had I gone to another College."
